I auditioned for the role of Columbia.
Song - I Didn't Plan It from Waitress the Musical:
Monologue - It's Terrible Being Nice from the play Goodbye Charles, playing the role of Cynthia:
Feedback I received
What Went Well:
- stage presence
- use of head voice
- projection
- confident vocally
- open body language
- characterisation and gestures
- diction
- didn't let nerves get the better of me because my voice was shaky
- used the space
- monologue was realistic
- good song choice
- seamless transition from lower to higher notes
Even Better If:
- projection - work on diaphragmatic breathing
- sustain the longer notes
- work on belting
- pace yourself
- more eye contact
- more characterisation and expression in the song - be angry
- dynamic in monologue
- bigger range in tone
- don't tense shoulders
I was happy with my audition pieces because it was the best I could do on that day. I hit the high note in the song and as someone said I didn't let my nerves get the better of me despite my shaky voice. I think I had good stage presence in my monologue but I need to work on pacing myself.
